Now that's a greeting party! Each year, the Medal of Honor guests are met at DFW airport by our ambassadors and then given a full police escort up I-35 to Gainesville, TX, about 65 miles. When the convoy enters Cooke County, they see a crowd and a gigantic flag on the overpass welcoming them back to the appreciative people of Gainesville and surrounding communities. Upon arrival, they are treated to complimentary accommodations, banquets, golf and a parade!

Gainesville, TX takes the spirit of patriotism to the next level and the 2012 Rand McNalley Road Trip team recognized us as the Most Patriotic City in the U.S. On the second weekend of April, Gainesville plays host to any living Medal of Honor recipient who will make the trip to North Texas. Upon arrival, the decorated heroes and their wives are treated to accommodations for 3 days, banquets, golf and a parade in their honor. Join us for next year's event.

A new tree is planted for a Medal of Honor winner's first visit to Gainesville's Host City Program. To date, almost 40 trees have been planted along this walking trail which follows the path of a former railroad track.

In 2012, Gainesville was named as the winner among five finalists for the Rand McNally USA Today contest for the Most Patriotic City. A team of judges and a video crew came to visit Gainesville in early July. They learned about Gainesville's status as the ONLY Medal of Honor host city in America and about the annual MOH weekend, which has welcomed heroes and their wives, every year since 2001.

On the second Saturday of April, you will find a grateful citizenry lining the streets of downtown Gainesville for a parade honoring the heroes who have defended our country in battle.
